Decision No. 69/2004/QĐ-TTg dated April 28, 2004 by the Prime Minister and Decision No. 172/2004/QĐ-UB dated July 15, 2004 by the HCM City People’s Committee approved the establishment of Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation, which operates on a pilot basis under the parent company – subsidiary model. In 2010, the corporation was transformed into Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation – Single-Member Limited Liability under Decision No. 2988/QĐ-UB dated July 7, 2010 by the HCM City People’s Committee
SAMCO operates in various business fields, each of which plays an important role in the city’s socio-economic development and gathers various resources, supportive power, associative cooperation in multiple fields. In addition, with manufacturing mechanical engineering as its leading-edge industry, the SAMCO Corporation is designated as one of the four corporations undertaking a key task of developing Vietnam’s automotive industry.
As a State-owned enterprise with multi-field business operations, its major business segments include production of transport mechanical products and provision of high-quality transport services. The corporation’s automotive business sells cars, buses, and coaches and provides genuine spare parts and auto services for vehicles such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan… It also manufactures and assembles various buses and special purpose vehicles on bare chassis imported from Isuzu, Hino, Maz, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz…...
As a training center that trains hi-tech technicians, SAMCO operates in combination and get technical assistance, training manuals, and training aids from world-famous automakers. The transport business consist of (i) inter-provincial (inter-city) and public passenger transport and (ii) domestic and outbound road, river and maritime cargo transport. In addtion, the corporation’s activities are expanded to include building ships, providing waterway transport services, producing equipment, and building transportation systems as well as renting container depots. Further, it is also involved in export & import business for environmental equipment, garage equipment, and spare parts for transport and public transport. it also undertakes technical designing for various vehicles with advanced specifications suitable to road conditions in Vietnam. Financial investment is also one of the corporation’s activities.

Corporate History
Company renamed Saigon Factory with 5 workshops including: Repair Workshop, Mechanical Workshop, Hung Hiep Workshop, Mechanical-Electric Workshop, and Workpiece-Forming Workshop.
- Company restructured to include two workshops: SAMCO 1 and SAMCO 2. Oil-Regenerating Company merged into SAMCO as SAMCO 3.
- Saigon Auto Company merged into SAMCO as SAMCO 4.
- (April) Mercedes-Benz Vietnam (MBV) Joint Venture Company established.
- (September) Establishment of Road Mechanized Means of Transport Inspection Station 50-04V.
- (October) Establishment of Isuzu Vietnam Joint Venture Company (IVC).
- Establishment of SAMCO 5 workshop at 1 Ha Noi Highway, Thu Duc District.

- (December) Establishment of Toyota Tsusho Saigon Motor Service Co. Ltd (TTSAMCO).
01/1999 Establishment of the Toyota Ben Thanh Motor Company (TBTC) - an official dealer of Toyota Motor Vietnam.
(June 1999) Foreign shares bought back from Inchcape Saigon Joint Venture Co., which was afterwards established as an affiliate known as Industrial and Motor Service Enterprise (ISAMCO), an official dealer of Vinastar (Mitsubishi vehicle), Vidamco (Daewoo vehicle), and Vidamco (Daihatsu vehicle).
(April 29) Equitization of SAMCO 3, which was afterwards established as Hang Xanh Auto Service Joint Stock Company (HAXACO).
(March 2001) Obtainment of ISO 9002:1994 quality certification by Quacert for auto services and trading.
Establishment of the An Lac Auto Mechanical Enterprise (SAMCO An Lac), from SAMCO 4 workshop, including Isuzu vehicle trading outlet; car, truck, bus building and repair workshop; special purpose vehicle building and repair workshop.
(28 April 2004) Approval by the Prime Minister of establishment of Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO) operating on a pilot basis under the parent company - subsidiary model.
Decision No. 172/2004/QĐ-UB by the HCM City People’s Committee on the establishment of Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO) operating on a pilot basis under the parent - subsidiary model, including 25 companies directly under the Department of Transport and Public Works operating as subsidiary companies and the previous SAMCO framework of organization operating as the parent company.
Establishment of the Isuzu An Lac Auto Service Enterprise
Inauguration of Cu Chi Auto Factory, with an initial capacity of 4,000 units/shift/year. Manufactured here are SAMCO-brand buses and coaches that are used in public passenger transport and inbound and outbound tourism.
Establishment of Kumho Samco Express Transport Co., Ltd as a joint venture with Kumho Construction & Engineering Co. under Kumho Asiana Group (Korea), the business operations of which include aviation, construction, tyre production, passenger transport, travel services.
11/09/2008 Establishment of a SAMCO branch in the northern region (SAMCO Ha Noi)
Establishment of the SAMCO Trading & Service Enterprise, with its precursor being the Business Department of SAMCO Corporation’s Parent Company.
(7 July 2010) The corporation transformed into the single-member limited liability company, operating under the parent – subsidiary model according to Decision No. 2988/QĐ-UB dated July 7, 2010 by the HCM City People’s Committee.
Establishment of the An Lac Special Purpose Vehicle Mechanical Enterprise (SP. SAMCO), with its precursor being the special purpose vehicle manufacturing workshop of the An Lac Auto Mechanical Enterprise.
