Project Name

New Eastern Coach Station

Project description

Implementing one of the seven action programs according to the resolution adopted by the 10th HCM City Party Committee Congress, especially the traffic congestion reduction program, the SAMCO Corporation on 26 April 2017 started construction of the new Eastern Coach Station. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed in late 2017 to enable the existing coach station’s operations to be shifted to the new one, which will enhance service quality and concurrently help to reduce traffic congestion. The new coach station will help eradicate unlicenced coaches and their unprompted passenger pick-up and drop-off locations, thereby restoring the city’s traffic order.

The 1st stage of the project includes the construction of a central terminal, a departure-waiting parking area, a passenger pick-up and drop-off area, a waste water treatment station and technical infrastructure.

The central terminal is a 4-story and 2-basement buidling, with the floor space of some 49,680 m2, consisting of a passenger waiting hall, office area, and canteen.

Coach departure and arrival and inter-provincial coach parking area include:

Coach departure and parking areas (ground floor) with a floor space of 30,054.5 m2, which is expected to include about 70 bus departure bays and 190 bus parking bays.

Coach arrival area (basement 1) covering 15,680 m2, which is expected to include about 140 bus arrival bays.

Departure waiting parking area covering 27,660 m2, which is expected to include 250 departure waiting parking bays.

The waste water treatment station and rubbish dump, which covers 1,100 m2, includes a waste water treatment area, rubbish dump, and one-story supporting service annex covering 1,100 m2, with the total floor area of 2,200 m2.

Situated at a boundary location between HCM city and Binh Duong Province, the new Eastern Coach Station is expected to play a role as an essential transport hub in the city’s public transport network. Apart from inter-provincial coaches, the new coach station will have various modes of passenger transport, to serve the transfer of passengers to the city centre and other satellite cities, such as Metro Route No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien), bus rapid transfer route linking up to Binh Duong New City (under consideration) and bus routes, and taxis for passenger transport conveniently linking up with various modes of transport between HCM City and satellite cities.

The new Eastern Coach Station is designed under the model of Transit-Oriented Development. This is a advanced model of urban development universally applied throughout the world. This model facilitates the public transport to be accessible to urban areas, diversifies functional activities for inhabitants, and ensure unpolluted environment with open space.

Objective of investment

The new Eastern Coach Station enables modern modes of transport to link up together, creating favourable conditions for inhabitants to travel from urban areas to coach stations at the gate to the city. Specifically, the new Eastern Coach Station will link up with Metro Route No.1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien), bus rapid transfer route linking up to Binh Duong New City (under consideration) and other bus routes, and taxis for convenient passenger transport, enhancing the quality of catering for bus passengers in particular and the city’s inhabitants in general. In addition, social demand for low-cost, high-quality, swift, and safe transport services fit for international standards are also satisfied.

Size of investment

The new Eastern Coach Station is a complex consisting of a main station area integrating various utility services. Located in Long Binh Ward of HCM City’s District 9 and Binh Duong Province’s Di An District, the coach station covers more than 16 ha (almost three times larger than the current one), including 12.3 ha belonging to HCM City and 3.7 ha to Binh Duong Province. The new Eastern Coach station is expected to serve more than 7 million passengers travelling to eastern, central and northern provinces, meeting the daily travel demand of around 21,000 pasengers with 1,200 outward vehicle trips and as many as 52,000 passengers with more than 1,800 vehicle trips on holidays. The coach station will also integrate other utilities such as high-rise parking, a repair area, a filling station, a commodity transit and freight area, and a shopping and service area.

Location of project

Situated on Ha Noi Highway, which is a transport route to eastern, central and northern provinces of Vietnam, the new coach station is located partly in Binh Thang Ward, Di An Town, Binh Duong Province and partly in Long Binh Ward, District 9, HCM City.
